DVLA Driver Check Code

All customers with a DVLA issued licence (England, Scotland and Wales) now need to obtain a code or print off prior to hiring a vehicle.

Each code is valid for 21 days from the date you obtain it and it can only be used once (to protect your privacy). You can have up to 15 active check codes at any given time.

To obtain a code or a printout:

  1. Go to https://www.viewdrivingrecord.service.gov.uk/driving-record/licence-number
  2. Enter your driver number and post code, as they appear on your licence, and your National Insurance number
  3. Click on the ‘share your licence information’ tab – then the ‘create a code’ button
  4. You will now be shown the case sensitive code that we need. Alternatively you’ll also have the option to print out your licence information.

This DVLA video explains how to obtain a code or printout:

If you cannot get a code online then you can call the DVLA on 0300 083 0013. You’ll need to answer some security questions to validate your identity before the DVLA will give you a code.

Alternatively we will be able to contact the DVLA on a premium rate number to check your licence details. This facility is charged at £5.00.
